Skukuza Rest Camp

Skukuza is the Kruger National Park’s largest rest camp and administrative headquarters.

It is situated on the southern banks of the Sabie River. The camp is well foliaged and there are some lofty trees along the river’s edge. Activities and facilities are diverse, as are the animals and plants found both within the camp and in the surrounding areas.

Routes and times are from central Gauteng.

By Air

There are daily flights to the Kruger Park operating from Johannesburg to the Skukuza Airport, Phalaborwa Airport, Hoedspruit Airport and the Kruger/Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) located between Nelspruit and White River. Daily flights also operate to Skukuza from Cape Town. KMIA also receives daily flights from Durban and Cape Town, and there is also a flight from Cape Town to Hoedspruit.

By Road: Paul Kruger Gate

Take the N4 to Nelspruit. Then take the R40 to Hazyview via White River. From Hazyview, take the R536 to the gate. Allow between 5 to 6 hours for the trip to the gate. Skukuza Rest Camp is 12km away from the gate. Allow about 30 minutes for the drive to the camp.

By Road: Phabeni Gate

Take the N4 to Nelspruit. Then take the R40 to Hazyview via White River. From Hazyview, take the R536 to the gate. Phabeni Gate is approximately 10 km from Hazyview. Allow between 5 to 6 hours for the trip to the gate. Skukuza Rest Camp is 39km from the gate. Allow about 1 and ¾ of an hour for the drive to the camp.
